Slow Beam

SLOW BEAM

It will be no surprise that Slow Beam is a hot contender for my favourite stay of all time. It is also no surprise to anyone that my birthday is my favourite week (yes that’s right, week) of the year. It made total sense to marry the two and have my birthday at Slow Beam, two years in a row I’ve celebrated with my besties at Slow Beam with a classy lil dinner party full of champagne, cheese, and cake by the insanely talented Ellie from Ellie Thurstans Cakes (who matches the cake to my birthday outfit no less).

Slow Beam has been featured in Vogue, Qantas Magazine, The Design Files, and now - BEAR! You’re going to love it.

Located in West Hobart, Tasmania - Slow Beam offers accommodation for 1-2 people, making it the perfect place for a romantic getaway. They also offer an extremely generous late checkout of 2pm which we love.

Slow Beam showcases the natural bush and sandstone surrounds, as well as offering expansive views of the city and Derwent River. The quarter-acre property is yours to explore while you’re there (you just have to share with the wallabies and pademelons).

One of my favourite aspects of Slow Beam is the solid bronze door handle (stay with me). This functional work of art was created by Anna Varendorff by casting stone finishes to complement the sandstone rock walls on the property. You heard it here first kids, boring door handles are out - 2025 is the year of uniquity.

In my opinion, Slow Beam is a perfect winter location, because let’s be honest, you’re not going to want to leave the house anyway. The artwork throughout is carefully curated, and the record player really sets the tone for your stay. There is a wood fire in the dining space, making a cosy central space to spend time. The bedroom is spacious yet cosy, offering stunning views that you can enjoy from bed.

The carpet in the lounge space was designed specifically for the house by Melbourne artist Esther Stewart. It’s a plush showstopper.

The lighting in the house is well considered, dark walls and ceilings set a moody tone. Windows allow light to enter the space, transforming the atmosphere throughout the day. The dappled light from the surrounding gumtrees cast shadows on the interiors, continuously redefining the space as time passes.

Stairway to heaven (the world’s funkiest bathroom)

So, I’m not a bath person. Controversial I know. I’ve never mastered the temperature, it’s either so hot I’m sweating, or not warm enough, making me add in scalding hot water bit by bit until it’s nearly overflowing. BUT, I wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to marinate in this masterpiece. A whole 15 minutes of bliss.

An architecturally designed, luxury stay, with a fully functional kitchen. I could tell you I cooked up a storm but that would be a lie. I did however, assemble up a storm, having popped to Hill Street Grocer for all my cheese needs, the platter was underway. Charlotte Harris from Carb Diem even dropped off some of her insanely good mini spanakopitas. You can find Carb Diem at The Farm Gate Market. Tell me you’ve had a better 7am doorstep delivery.

If all of that isn’t enough, Slow Beam also offer complementary Taylor & Smith cocktails, and Le Labo products for use throughout your stay!

Stray beautiful,

BEAR.
