Passport to the Greek Islands
PASSPORT TO THE GREEK ISLANDS
Kalimera strays!
The final instalment of Passport to Greece is here! Enjoy!
MYKONOS
My Mykonos recommendations are few and far between, due to this being the last hoorah of my 3 month euro summer in 2018. My girlfriend Maria and I stayed 9 days in one Airbnb due to a missed ferry, but my oh my was it a goodie!!
The Farm House was quiet, surrounded by sun, and a close walk to gyros, the beach, and the local club Cavo Paradiso. Cavo was horrendously overpriced, but not so overpriced we didn’t go 6 nights in a row. We saw Alan Walker, and Bob Sinclair play, and paid $8 for a bottle of water every round of drinks we bought. We spent the daylight hours lounging at Super Paradise Beach hoping to catch a glimpse of Brittany Spears on her Super Yacht (rumoured).

SANTORINI
Get ready to see proposals galore!! The picturesque views provide people with the perfect background for that ‘down on one knee’ moment. The sunsets are also pretty magic from the bars of Oia! Groundbreaking right?

MILOS
In my opinion, Milos is best seen from the water! We jumped on a sailboat and spent the day being dropped at various swim spots for a dip, a soak in the sun, and a snack before carrying on! Obviously a must see is Sarakiniko (the moon beach). We went at dusk and it was stunning but slightly windy. The early mornings are supposed to be quite calm there!

CRETE
For some reason we stayed in the tiniest little town in the middle of nowhere. Vafes. The Airbnb was traditional, and boasted the best rooftop for alfresco breakfast or an afternoon wine! The local grocer was also the laundromat, the restaurant, and the local hang out spot. We were welcomed to a community dinner there that night, where everyone knew we were the girls staying in THE Airbnb. We did a tour of the local olive grove, and did shots of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Delicious.

CORFU
The port of Corfu is an incredible place to spend time. There are restaurants along the water, some with water access so you can dine in and dive in! We had the most amazing Airbnb views in Corfu, with a neighbouring restaurant that served fresh seafood and the best baklava I’ve ever tasted! See Passport to Greece - Corfu for the details!

PAXOS
Hire a scooter and zip around the island! Live your Lizzie McGuire fantasy and make your boyfriend drive! This is what dreams are made of! A fabulous and unique stay is listed over on Passport to Greece - Paxos! Go and check it out!

ANTIPAXOS
I only spent a few hours on Antipaxos as part of a day sail from Paxos, but even in that short time, its earned its way onto the rec list! These cliffs were unlike anything I’d seen before! Swirls! Or scientifically known as slump folds caused by gravity-driven mass movements on soft rock!! The water at Vrika is like a bath! I’m told that Voutoumi beach is equally as beautiful.

ATHENS
I’m well aware that Athens isn’t a Greek Island, but it’s a usual thoroughfare to get to the islands. Some areas have such a cool vibe to them and the history is rich, but it’s also kind of scary at night! I’ve been a couple of times, and both times I was glad I wasn’t travelling alone.
The star of the show is always a local recommendation. This time, from our Greek friend Kyriakos who took us to a restaurant that served incredible lamb chops with lemon, chips, and Greek Salad. We spent hours there ordering more and more food, and Mythos beers!
A for Athens is also a super cool cocktail bar with uninterrupted views of the Acropolis!
